While production, voiceover and copywriting are my career focus now, the rush I felt during those days live on the air hadn't changed much from when I first cracked the mic at age 17. Here are some Radioland airchecks from all kinds of formats:
There isn't a radio person in the world who wouldn't relish the opportunity to be behind the mic at an iconic radio station. I experienced that thrill during two wonderful years in Radioland at KTWV - the Wave in Los Angeles!
While working with Doug McIntyre at KABC, I developed an obsession with the music of the Great American Songbook. This passion reached its zenith when I worked as morning host at Saul Levine's KSUR (later KKGO-AM) in Los Angeles. My on-air name was "Nick Gerard."
As Production Director at Marker Broadcasting starting in January 2009, I also did on-air fill-in. I didn't expect it would re-awaken my long dormant love for country music!
My years in Los Angeles also included another rewarding stop in Radioland: being heard nationwide on Westwood One's Adult Standards network. I loved working with great radio men like Chick Watkins, Bill Jones, and Ed Brand.
Ah, San Diego! America's Finest City. I spent five years there at a station that changed format six times. Here's the "oldies" incarnation of KJQY "K-Joy." This is about as hi-energy as I can get on the air.
